Return at 2:45. 14:59:15 From Debbie Crane : Gorgeous picture! 15:07:56 From Jimmy Dodson : Alyssa : I may have missed it, so… have you looked at the soil nitrogen levels on these same sites pre & post fire. I ask b/c there is a wide range of reported N loss with fire, but sandhills are already lower in quantity, in addition to the factor of available vs unavailable N complicating the scenario. 15:17:31 From Sarah Hecocks to Alyssa Young(Direct Message) : You might have missed it while presenting but there is a question for you in the chat from Jimmy Dodson. Thanks again for presenting!! 15:31:05 From Sarah Hecocks to Kevin Robertson (FL)(Direct Message) : Hi Kevin: 5 min notice 15:34:20 From Alyssa Young : Hey Jimmy, thanks for your question. I have not looked at soil N levels at each of my sites both pre and post-fire, although some sites had been burned more recently than others. I did see that both total N and available N were lower in the sites that were more recently burned and that some legume species were forming more nodules at those sites than others (probably compensating for low soil N). Still trying to parse apart all the factors that play into the N dynamics in this symbiosis 15:36:56 From Jeff Marcus : Kevin- super interesting. TTRS always does great research. Do you have data to indicated whether the increased soil carbon after burning offsets the carbon released with fire? I.e. can controlled burning be neutral or beneficial for atmospheric carbon as opposed to a problem? Thanks for presenting.- Jeff 15:37:58 From Rhonda Sturgill to Sarah Hecocks(Direct Message) : Sarah - you really are good at this! 15:38:05 From Sarah Hecocks to Rhonda Sturgill(Direct Message) : Thanks Rhonda :) 15:40:36 From Sarah Hecocks to Kevin Robertson (FL)(Direct Message) : You might have missed it while presenting but there is a question for you in the chat from Jeff Marcus. Thanks again for presenting!! 15:43:06 From Kevin Robertson (FL) to Sarah Hecocks(Direct Message) : Hi, Jeff. Yes, apparently frequent burning is a net plus, or at worst neutral, for increasing soil C. So, given this fact and that the perennial vegetation recovers completely between burns, frequent burning in these systems is not a concern in terms of net C release to the atmosphere. 15:43:44 From Kevin Robertson (FL) : Hi, Jeff. Yes, apparently frequent burning is a net plus, or at worst neutral, for increasing soil C. So, given this fact and that the perennial vegetation recovers completely between burns, frequent burning in these systems is not a concern in terms of net C release to the atmosphere. 15:43:58 From Kevin Robertson (FL) to Sarah Hecocks(Direct Message) : Sorry, I did not see that I was just responding to you! 15:44:10 From Sarah Hecocks to Kevin Robertson (FL)(Direct Message) : No worries! I do that all the time. 15:44:58 From Sarah Hecocks : Ants are so crazy. 15:59:46 From Mike Martin : Just a note to add about those fire ant rafts: I've found them after flooding hurricanes in the fall as late as the following spring...still floating. 16:00:05 From Sarah Hecocks to Lisa Kelly(Direct Message) : Lisa: 5 min mark 16:03:36 From Sarah Hecocks : Link to the Darracq et al 2022 paper: https://meridian.allenpress.com/journal-of-herpetology/article/56/1/84/478835 16:07:05 From Mike Martin : Thanks Lisa, that was great information! 16:07:35 From Jeff Marcus : To Lisa's point: about a decade ago the Partnership supported an invasive species task force with a full time person and seasonal help and they surveyed and treated invasive species (mostly plants) on multiple partner properties. Time to revive that group? 16:20:36 From Sarah Hecocks to Jeff Beane(Direct Message) : Jeff: 5 min mark 16:29:15 From Sarah Hecocks to Jeff Beane(Direct Message) : Hi Jeff, we are over time 16:32:08 From Debbie Crane : Fascinating talk. I could listen to this topic all day 16:35:13 From Jeff Marcus to Sarah Hecocks(Direct Message) : We originally advertised meeting as going to 4:45.
